Frequently asked questions.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. All clinical counselling sessions are private and confidential with exception of the duty to report when a disclosure is made of imminent harm to oneself or others, abuse, or when required by law.

Service providers at the CCC engage in regular Integrated Case Management meetings ensuring highest quality of wrap-around support. Clients must sign a Release/Receipt of Information for service providers to consult with one another. Without client consent, service providers do not discuss client information. All charting and documentation is confidential and stored digitally.

When engaging in experience-based therapies and support programs out in community, measures can be taken to protect confidentiality as needed.

Do I have to engage in the experienced-based therapies to access counselling?

No. If you are not interested or not yet sure if you are interested in experience-based and support programs, you are more than welcome to engage in clinical counselling as a stand-alone service.

Do I need to engage in clinical counselling to access experience-based therapies or support programming?

No, clients can book sessions with any professional working at the CCC. It's essential to recognize that experience-based therapists and support workers are not qualified to provide counselling or psychotherapy services. While these services focus on wellness and practical support and can enhance the clinical counselling process, they can also be accessed as standalone services at the client's discretion.

Are your services covered by extended health benefits?

Most health plans cover Registered and Certified Clinical Counsellors (RCC’s and CCC’s) but it is up to you to check with your service provider. We do not bill directly to any health plan provider. You will provide a payment method at time of booking and it is up to you to seek reimbursement with your provider.

Experience-based therapies and support services are rarely covered by extended health plans. However, it is worth checking with your provider.

Are you able to bill services to the AFU?

Yes. The CCC is set up to bill to the Autism Funding Unit. Clinical Counselling is covered by the AFU, for both child/youth and the parents, as is Certified Music Therapy for the child after age six. Some of our support workers specialize in behaviour intervention/support for children and youth on the Autism spectrum. These services can also be billed to the AFU.

What ages do you work with?

We aim to support people of all ages, including younger children. We recognize there is a lack of mental health support services for children and youth in the Sea to Sky. However, clinical counselling sessions are not always the best fit for younger kids. It is encouraged that the parents/primary caregiver of children and youth meet with the clinical counsellor first. Counselling support for caregivers can go further than individual sessions for a child. Our model of service delivery means caregivers can work with the counsellor while the child/youth can access the experience-based therapies and/or support programming. This way, children and youth can access therapies in music, art, play, and the outdoors while caregivers are supported in their role in their counselling sessions. With client consent, all service providers engage in regular meetings to collaborate and ensure continuity of care across programs.

Young/mature adults and seniors will also find benefit in our programming. The CCC aims to offer a variety of services that meet the unique strengths and needs of individuals at all ages.

What if I don’t have benefits and I can’t afford counselling?

There are a few options for accessing our services if funds are a barrier for you. First, we offer a sliding pay scale based on income. Second, there are a couple of counselling funds assistance programs in the Sea to Sky Corridor. PearlSpace, (formerly the Women’s Centre), and the Tantalus Wellspring both offer counselling funds assistance that can be used for our clinical counselling services.

I don’t live in Squamish but I am interested in therapeutic experiences while I visit. Is this a possibility?

Absolutely. Clinical counselling can be offered virtually before your intended trip to Squamish, and our experienced-based therapists can be scheduled during your intended visit. This is a wonderful way for clients invested in their mental health to experience the outdoor recreation and arts community that Squamish has to offer while visiting.

Currently, virtual counselling clients must reside in BC. As clinical counselling becomes government regulated, this may change to include more provinces in Canada.

What are the qualifications of the experience-based therapists and facilitators?

Our experience-based therapists and facilitators have, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in psychology or other mental health related field, alongside relevant professional experience, training, and certifications needed for the guided services they provide.

What are the qualifications of the support workers?

Support workers are either university students enrolled in a field of study related to mental health and wellness, or are locals in community with interest, passion, and experience in supporting vulnerable populations.

I’m interested in working with the CCC. Are you hiring?

Yes! We are actively looking for more members to join our team. Currently, we are seeking experience-based therapists/facilitators and support workers. If you are a university student or recent graduate of a bachelor’s in psychology or related field, with relevant work experience, and passionate about the arts and the outdoors for mental health and wellness, please reach out. We are looking for both year-round and seasonal support staff. The summer months are a busy time here in Squamish and we would love to have a few more programs offered at this time. You can find our job postings here.

We will be looking to add one or two more clinical counsellors to our team September, 2025. Please reach out if this may be a possible start date for you.
